With the dominant narrative around midlife change focused almost entirely on hormone deficiency, it’s hard to imagine how coaching in perimenopause and menopause could allow symptoms to heal.
Even when implementing a more natural or holistic approach to perimenopause and menopause, the assumption is that if we change something in the physical realm – with herbs, treatments or even certain practices – then we might experience a level of symptom relief.
Obviously, if a woman is spending her days on the couch eating junk food, a change in the physical realm will be required if she wants to start feeling better.
However, most of the women who I work with already have reasonably healthy lifestyles. Before we started their coaching sessions, they were still feeling burdened by physical and emotional symptoms despite having tried numerous products and sometimes also HRT.
Since entering perimenopause or menopause, how many pills, creams or potions have you bought, or how many treatments have you invested in with the hope that they will make you feel better? Have you been disappointed?
If you’re still not sleeping well; if you’re bothered by night sweats and hot flushes; if you’re shocked that even small things can make you feel anxious or appear to trigger menopause rage; if you’re struggling with brain fog, migraines and/or trying to heal dry body parts, I know how exhausting that can feel.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find a simple way to feel like yourself again and experience calmer days and sleep-filled nights?
But can coaching actually reduce symptoms and allow you to start loving life again?
Instead of trying to “fix” your body on the material level, the coaching that I offer helps shift awareness. When I support my clients and allow them to come into balance on an emotional and spiritual level, the body takes care of the physical.
Sounds too simple? When we hold on to the idea that what is needed for good health at midlife is to engage with the complex task of hormone management, it certainly appears unlikely that coaching would help. But if coaching has transformed the lives of my clients as they have journeyed through perimenopause and menopause, why couldn’t it help you?
Emma, who was taking HRT to try and relieve a range of emotional and physical symptoms, shares how our coaching sessions helped her:
“I am now off HRT, changing, amending different things incrementally and feeling better for it ... I am eating better, drinking less (if at all), enjoying exercise and putting myself first ‘more’… I have definitely slowed down, feel calmer and the anxiety is much shorter lived.”
Another client, Trish, went from “night sweats ALL night long, anxiety, weight gain, insomnia and just general miserableness’ to seeing that her “body IS perfect and knows what to do.”
On how coaching impacted her symptoms, Trish explains how radically different they are now: “I have the odd night sweat and sleepless night…but when I forget all about them, they don’t seem to exist!”
